We ask for your business ownership information to ensure a smooth and secure experience for you and comply with financial regulations.
A director makes decisions that impact a business and doesn't necessarily need to hold any ownership of the business. A business owner owns part or all of a business.
We may ask for a document that shows the structure and ownership information of your business. The document should show the names and ownership details of all owners and directors of your business.
The document should be an official government document. In cases where this is not available in your country, a document signed/stamped by an accountant or a legal representative (attorney/notary, lawyer) is also accepted.
If you’re the only owner of your business, when filling in your business ownership information, you should add yourself as an owner and specify that you own 100% of the business.
Indirect owners own a business through another entity, like another company or trust, rather than holding the ownership directly in their name.
You must add any entity or individual that ultimately owns a specified percentage of your company.
In the example above (using 25% ownership as the threshold), you should add:
- Individual 1 – they directly own 25% of your company
- Individual 2 – they indirectly own 25% of your company by owning 100% of Company 1
- Company 2 – it directly owns more than 25% of your company
You do not need to add:
- Company 1 – we’ll collect the details of Company 1 separately (Individual 2 indirectly owns 25% of your company through Company 1, so they should be added as the business owner instead)
- Individual 3 – they own less than 25%
- Individual 4 – they don’t own enough of Company 2 to ultimately own 25% of your company
