Batch payments to multiple recipient bank accounts - FAQ

Note: This FAQ is for customers that have a Payoneer account for receiving and sending payments (with this account, you can get paid to your Payoneer balance by clients and marketplaces, and pay your suppliers, contractors, and other recipients using the funds in your balance).

If you have a Payoneer account for sending payments, you can find information on making batch payments using ACH bank debit here.

Batch payment is a feature that lets you to make up to 1000 payments at the same time by uploading a file that lists each individual payment.

Batch payment saves you both time and effort by enabling you to make multiple payments to your suppliers and service providers who are not themselves Payoneer customers. It’s great for businesses that have recurring invoices or need to make multiple payments at once.

With batch payment, you can make individual payments to multiple recipients, multiple payments to a single recipient, or both, all within the same batch.

Note: Before you make a batch payment, your recipients’ bank accounts need to be added to and approved by Payoneer. Learn more.

To make a batch payment, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to Payoneer.
  2. From the main menu, click Pay.
  3. Click Batch payment to multiple recipient bank accounts.
  4. Create a payment file. Learn how.
  5. Upload the payment file, then and click Next.
  6. Validate the list of payments and review the payment totals in the Payment summary section.
If there are any issues that require fixing, do so in the payment file and upload it again. Learn more about issues that you may encounter and what to do.
  7. When ready, click Proceed, review the summary, then click Pay.
You may be asked to verify your identity using a code (if two-step verification is turned on in your account).

Note that the payments in the batch are processed one at a time, in the same order as they appear in the payment file.

We will initially determine whether each payment can successfully be charged to the relevant balance.

  1. Payments that are successfully charged are still pending final approval by Payoneer, your recipient’s bank, or any correspondent bank involved in the transaction. Once a payment is approved by Payoneer, it typically reaches the recipient in 1-3 business days. If a payment is declined or requires further action, we’ll let you know by email.
  2. Payments that cannot be charged to your balance for any reason will not be processed further. These payments do not impact your balances and will not be reflected in the Transactions page.

Once the initial processing is finished, we’ll send you an email summarizing the amounts that your balances were charged and a detailed breakdown of the status of each payment in the batch.

To further track the status of each payment, view it in the Transactions page of your Payoneer account.

You can pay any recipient whose bank account you have added to your Payoneer account.

For more information on adding recipient bank accounts, please see this FAQ.

To create a payment file, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to Payoneer.
  2. From the main menu, click Pay.
  3. Click Batch payment to multiple recipient bank accounts.
  4. Download a payment file template. You can choose to download either:
  • A template file prefilled with recipient bank account details for all your approved recipient bank accounts.
  • An empty template file, to which you’ll need to copy in recipient bank account details.
  1. Save a copy of the template with a name that describes your batch, for example, Julysupplieraccounts.csv. The file name must be in English.
  2. Open your copy of the file. Do not change or delete the row of column headers.
  3. Fill in one row for each payment you would like to make (up to 1000 payments), as described below:

If you chose to download an empty template file, fill in the bank account details of the recipient you wish to pay: Bank Account Holder Name, Bank Account Number/IBAN, and Recipient Bank Account Currency.

Note: Make sure to enter the Bank Account Holder Name in English characters. It should match the bank account holder name in English that you provided when setting up your recipient’s bank account in Payoneer.

If you chose to download a prefilled template file, there is no need to enter the bank account details. Just make sure not to remove the quotation marks around the bank account numbers in the prefilled column.

  • Enter the Payoneer Balance to Pay From using the relevant currency abbreviation. You can see the currency abbreviations (USD, EUR, GBP, etc.) for your balances on your Payoneer home page.
  • Enter only one of the following amounts--we’ll calculate the other for you, including the fee, after you upload the file:
  • Amount to Pay from the balance entered in Payoneer Balance to Pay From
    or
  • Amount Recipient Gets in the currency entered in Recipient Bank Account Currency
  • Optionally, add a Payment Reference (reference number, invoice number or date, customer name, etc.). This will appear in your recipient's bank statement if supported by the recipient bank.
  • Optionally, add a Transaction Description. This is for your own reference and will be shown in the transaction details on the Transactions page in Payoneer.

  1. Save the file.

Yes, when you are downloading your payment file template, download the template prefilled with approved recipient bank account details.

Currently we offer two types of templates:

  • Template prefilled with approved recipient bank account details
This template is useful if you have a large number of approved recipient bank accounts to which you make payments, as it enables you to avoid having to copy/paste a large amount of bank account information manually into an empty template file.
  • Empty template that requires you to add all the payment information manually
This template is useful if you don’t need to make payments to a large number of approved recipient bank accounts, as it enables you to quickly paste a small number of relevant accounts into the empty file, rather than having to review a long list of accounts and decide which account details you need to delete.

The limits for batch payments are the same as the limits for paying recipients individually.

You can choose who pays the fee as follows:

  • If you would like to pay the fee for a specific payment, when entering the payment in the payment file, fill in the Amount Recipient Gets column. When we calculate the amount to pay, we’ll include the fee.
  • If you would like your recipient to pay the fee for a specific payment, when entering the payment in the payment file, fill in the Amount to Pay column. When we calculate the amount your recipient gets, we’ll include the fee.

You can pay from any of the currency balances in your Payoneer account.

In some cases, when paying to a recipient bank account in a different currency, payments may not be supported due to restrictions in currency conversion.

There are several types of errors that you might encounter after the payment file is uploaded and processed.

Issues in the payment file – if there are issues such as wrong information entered or unrecognized/unapproved bank accounts listed, we’ll display a relevant message. Fix the issues in the payment file as indicated and upload it again.

Issues with balances or limits – if we notice that you do not have enough funds in your balance to cover all the listed payments, or if one or more limits are exceeded (for example, monthly payment limit), we’ll display a relevant message. Fix the issues in the payment file as indicated and upload it again.

Issues with exchange rates or fees – if there is a change in exchange rates or fees from the time the payment file was uploaded until the time you click Pay (and provide your verification code if two-step verification is turned on in your account), we’ll display a relevant message and show you which payments are affected. In this case, you’ll have the option to proceed with the batch payment using the updated exchange rates/fees.

We’ll also let you know if any of the payments contain currency conversions that cannot be made at this time. In this case, you’ll have the option to proceed with the batch payment for the rest of the payments.

When you submit a batch payment, we process the payments one by one, in the order in which they appear in the payment file. As we process each payment, we verify that it can be charged to your balance. If we encounter any payment that cannot be charged, it won’t be processed further.

Once any individual payment is charged to your balance, you’ll be able to track it in the Transactions page. We’ll also send you an email summarizing all the payments that were charged.

In rare cases, we might not be able to charge your balance for a specific payment (due to technical or other reasons). In such cases, the payment won’t appear in the Transactions page, but it will be listed in the summary email, as you may wish to try making it again.

After a payment is successfully charged to your balance, it still requires final approval by Payoneer, your recipient’s bank, or any correspondent bank involved in the transaction. Once the payment is approved and on its way to the recipient it can take 1-3 business days to land in the recipient’s account. We won’t send you an email for each individual payment that is approved, but you can track the payment’s status in the Transactions page.

Note that even after a payment is successfully charged to your account, it may still be declined or require further action. In such cases, we’ll let you know by email. If a payment that was charged to your account is later declined (for example due to issues with the recipient’s bank account), the charge will be reversed (including any fees paid) and we’ll let you know by email. You’ll also see this in the Transaction page.

Once approved, payments typically reach the recipient in 1-3 business days.

Currently, when entering individual payments in the payment file, in the Payoneer Balance to Pay From column you can only list a specific currency such as USD or EUR.

If you have multiple balances in the same currency, we’ll determine which balance to pay from as follows:

  • If you have multiple prepaid (standalone) cards you received from partners (e.g., from Airbnb, Upwork, Fiverr, etc.) in the same currency, we’ll use the card with the highest balance.
  • If you have one or more prepaid (standalone) cards you received from partners as well as a USD currency balance not associated with a prepaid (standalone) card you received from a partner, we will make the payments from the currency balance not associated with the card.

This option may not be shown for the following possible reasons:

  • Batch payments may not be available in your country
  • You don’t yet have an approved bank account for withdrawals or Payoneer Commercial Mastercard® associated with your Payoneer account
  • You’ve been asked to provide documents via Payoneer’s Verification Center, but those documents have not yet been submitted, or have been submitted but are still under review
